Cass Tech has one of the best recruiting classes in the state of Michigan, and their sophomore class is loaded with talent. Quarterback Leeshaun Mumpfield is a consensus four-star recruit and is ranked among the top 300 prospects in the entire 2019 cycle. Other three-star players include defensive tackle Deone Walker, offensive lineman Jackson Pruitt, and wide receiver Jamey Gardner. If those four players aren’t enough to make you a contender for the starting job, you can always count on the junior class to step up.
Last season, Cass Tech’s players competed in the NFL. Five players, including tight end Khalid Hill, competed for the Cowboys, the Seahawks, the Patriots, and the Packers. In 2012, the marching band raised money from local corporations and the public to travel to the Presidential Inauguration Festival in Washington, D.C. During the 2013 season, the Cass Tech marching band also played in the University of Maryland’s Presidential Inauguration Festival.
The Cass Tech football team is coached by former Michigan tight end Khalid Hill and offensive lineman David Dawson. Both men are former standouts, having won three Division 1 state titles. One of their best players, offensive lineman David Dawson, spent time coaching at the high school level. As a result, he has a lot of experience. He has also worked with football camps around Michigan and has helped the Michigan state team prepare for the playoffs.

In its final home game of the season, Cass Tech will play a winless team from Detroit East English Village. The 14-day quarantine is likely to continue through this game, but Rushing is proud of the team’s players despite the adversity. Although he is not sure how the teams will play, he says the community spirit is the key to a successful season. The seven vs. 7 Alumni Game is a tradition for the football team.
