What is the Georgia Tech Monorail?

Where Can I Ride the Monorail?

How Much Does aride the Monorail Cost?
Construction of the monorail began in 2014 and it officially opened in May 2017. The cost of the project was $187 million, with $127 million coming from the Georgia Tech Foundation and $38 million from the Georgia Tech Corporation. Ridership is expected to help cover the rest of the cost. As of May 2018, ridership was at more than 5,000 per day, with more than 3,000 of those trips making a one-way round trip.

It will take many years, lots of money, and a lot of determination on the part of dozens of officials at Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, MARTA (Atlanta’s transit agency), and the private sector who want to see this vision become a reality.
What is a Monorail?
A monorail is a light rail system consisting of two or more cars connected by a track. Most monorails are electrified and operate at a top speed of around 35 miles per hour (56 km/h). A monorail can be used to travel between two places and is often used in conurbation areas to reduce traffic and improve transportation. In this case, the monorail runs above ground with frequent level-crossings and below-ground connections. Most monorails use electric propulsion, although most European and Japanese monorails use steam.
