How to Be Fashionably Late

Must read

Being “fashionably late” is a subjective term and different people have different ideas of what it means. It is generally considered acceptable to arrive a few minutes late, but you should always make sure that you’re not the first to ring the doorbell or the last to leave. When you’re invited to an event, you should try to arrive 15 minutes early or earlier, whichever is more appropriate.

If you’re attending an important event, such as a business meeting, try to arrive at least half an hour early. Being early will help give the impression that you have nothing to do beforehand, while being late will create an impression that you’re a bit busy. Of course, this approach only works if you’re a movie star or a world traveler. Otherwise, arriving late will come across as being irresponsible and self-centered.

Another good tip for being fashionably late is to arrive at an event at least 15 minutes before the start time. If you’re carrying a large gift, it’s also a good idea to be at the event closer to the start time. If you’re running late, you could end up disrupting the opening of gifts and putting the host under pressure to meet everyone on time. If you’re unsure of when to arrive, it’s always best to be early so you can choose a seat in the back.
