The Louisiana Tech baseball team is a part of Conference USA. The team competes in the NCAA Division I college baseball competition. Home games are played at J. C. Love Field in Pat Patterson Park. The Bulldogs’ season runs from May through September. The Bulldogs are the only program from the state of Louisiana that participates in conference play.
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 nationally in the country. They defeated No. 2 LSU in their regional series for the first time in 25 years. The Bulldogs also earned first-team All-American Taylor Young and Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year Logan McLeod.
Tech’s 2017 season featured eight new starting position players, including Burroughs, who led the team’s offense. The sophomore finished second in the regular season in OBP, hits, RBI, doubles, and triples. He led the Bulldogs to back-to-back seasons of 35 or more wins, while registering the most home wins in school history. While COVID-19 was a public health risk, the Tech team went 5-1 against other Louisiana schools.
Louisiana Tech baseball program was founded in 1894. Their first major leaguer was Rebel Oakes. In total, 17 former Bulldogs have made it to the major leagues. Some of these players also went on to play at other colleges. Many are currently playing in collegiate leagues around the nation.
Burroughs has won 300 games as a head coach. He is the only coach to win 200 games in six seasons at one school. His record as a head coach at LA Tech is 162-90. He led the Bulldogs to their first C-USA Championship game, and hosted their first NCAA Regional in school history.
Burroughs joins the Louisiana Tech family after four years at Northwestern State. While at Northwestern State, Burroughs compiled 113 wins. His teams made three consecutive 30-win seasons. The 2015-16 season also saw the Bulldogs make the Southland Conference Tournament. It also placed the Bulldogs No. 47 in the RPI.
After the eighth inning, ODU’s pitching was not bad. He struck out the first batter he faced and allowed only two baserunners to reach. The bullpen was led by reliever Vincent Bashara, who struck out the final four batters. The inning ended with a scoreless tie.
He was a renowned pitcher at UL. In 2008, he was named to the UL Athletics Hall of Fame. He currently serves as an assistant coach at Houston Baptist. His career has spanned four decades. He also has a great reputation in college baseball. If he is still coaching, he would be a great addition to the Louisiana Tech baseball team. While his record was outstanding, his personal life has impacted his career.
In addition to his academic success, Dark was also a great athlete. He played baseball while at LSU and was an All-SEC halfback in 1942. He was later inducted to the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame. Dark was born in Oklahoma and graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1940. He had a scholarship from Texas A&M, but ultimately chose LSU for his athletic career.
